He herenga tangata – A connection between people

Onehunga Kindergarten celebrated Tongan Language Week with ofa, pride, and so much learning. Our tamariki embraced every moment – creating Tongan flags, dressing in red, and carefully decorating the King’s Crest while listening to Stephen share the meaning.

A real highlight was when Ezra’s cousin came in and performed a tau’olunga – a lullaby composed for the Tongan princess. It was such a beautiful dance and we thank you Loti, Ezra’s mum for organising this special treat for us all.

We were also lucky to have the Te Papapa Tongan Group, who performed traditional dances that had our tamariki smiling, clapping, and the dancers came with enery and passion for their culture! It was a powerful reminder of the importance of identity and cultural pride.

Mālō ‘aupito to our Tongan whānau and community – your knowledge and support helped us create a week filled with connection, joy, and celebration.
