We had a wonderful time celebrating Diwali at Birdwood Kindergarten. The children helped to decorate the kindergarten, spending days practicing making rangoli patterns to bring us luck and welcome our visitors.
Our wonderful teacher aide and one of the grandmothers taught us how to make some Indian sweets, a simple recipe of condensed milk, desiccated coconut, icing sugar and food colouring (we used plant based condensed milk to make them vegan) rolled into balls and then chilled for an hour before tasting. YUMMY!
We have a very diverse community and embrace opportunities to learn about and celebrate different cultures.
