Here at Pigeon Mountain Kindergarten, we have been working towards the Healthy Heart Award and we were awarded our Rito (Bronze) Award just after we went into lockdown. We have been continuing this journey over lockdown and have had great whānau involvement through Storypark. Our families have been posting stories and photos of our tamariki involved in lots of physical activities such as biking, scootering, running, walking, dancing, yoga and also posting photos of healthy eating, cooking and baking experiences.

It is fantastic to see the enthusiasm from our whānau to proudly share how they keep themselves active and eat healthily, as they know how important it is, not only for our pre-schoolers, but for everyone! It was also lovely for us to see many photos of our whānau climbing Ōhuiarangi (Pigeon Mountain) which sits behind our kindergarten. We often walk up the maunga when we are at kindergarten and it is a favourite activity for our children, so it is fantastic to see this tradition being carried on during lockdown.
