On 21 March Auckland experienced one of our heaviest down pours of rain in over 50 years, with over 100mLs in a one hour period. Here at Glendowie Kindergarten, our community was sadly heavily affected by this.
From inside our kindergarten building we could see what was happening out on the street, which was devastating, especially for our friends and café owners at Mood Kitchen. One of them was hurt as a result of the floods and both had to be taken to hospital.
The tamariki made a beautiful card for them filled with beautiful pictures and heart felt messages of aroha. We delivered the card to the café on Friday 25 March. They weren’t there so we slid the card under the door. The following Monday they came to visit the kindergarten and kindly dropped off some chocolate Easter bunnies for all of the children and some pots and pans for the kindergarten to use. They were very touched by our kind gesture and we were very touched by their kindness in return.
The tamariki pictured from left to right here are Petra, Wren and Lulu who often visit the café with their whānau. It was Wren that informed us of the accident so we suggested that we make them a special card.
