At Epsom South Kindergarten, we are very lucky to have a huge outdoor environment where children often spend time searching for bugs and insects. Bees are our frequent visitors, especially in summer time. To extend our learning about living things, Bee Lady Sara was invited to share her knowledge.

Tamariki learnt many fascinating facts about bees and some big words such as “proboscis” and “pollination”. She taught us to stay calm and walk away if we see bees. After finishing the mat time, we watched the bees in the beehive, trying to spot the queen bee. A drop of honey to taste and a bee wax candle to take home were the special treats we got from her.

Tamariki enjoyed the Bee Lady’s visit and the room was filled with lots of laughter. Now we appreciate living creatures more than before and try to be Kaitiaki of them.
