Kia ora and welcome to Mt Albert Kindergarten
At Mt Albert Kindergarten we provide excellent education for tamariki in our welcoming and engaging environment.
We welcome children from 2 to 5 years old and are open from 8.45 am to 2.45 pm. We offer 20 hours free ECE to 2-5 year olds and provide 2 sessions each day:
4-hour session: 8.45 am to 12.45 pm.
6-hour session: 8.45 am to 2.45 pm.
We empower tamariki – We are strongly focussed on empowering tamariki in our mixed-aged setting. Teachers encourage and promote tuakana-teina relationships where our older children support the learning of the younger children. Through tuakana-teina, children (younger and older) show each other compassion, aroha (love), tautoko (support), and manaaki (care) as they grow and learn together.
We work collaboratively with parents to help settle everyone into kindergarten life. Our friendly, warm, welcoming, nurturing environment and practices support parents/whānau with the transition.
We are a multicultural community and our staff languages include English, Te Reo, Mandarin, Hindi and Samoan. Children feel a sense of belonging in our diverse environment which celebrates the languages and cultural backgrounds of our community.
Amazing outdoor environment – Tamariki love to explore our outdoor environment. Our challenging playground equipment enables children to develop gross motor skills and balance. Our large sandpit is equipped with a variety of open-ended resources that allow children to indulge their imagination and creativity. Children are empowered to independently choose their own resources to extend their unique interests and inquiry.
Learning through play – Our fully qualified, experienced and passionate team provide a quality learning programme and experiences that invite children to be curious, problem solve, work co-operatively and be resilient. Our large garden inspires children to learn about nature and sustainability. We have many construction, science, art and dramatic play resources available to the children. We set up provocations around children’s individual and shared interests so they can deepen their learning.
Specialist care – Our kaiako are trained in implementing the Incredible Years Teacher Programme which supports young children with self-regulation and their social, emotional and academic competence.
Inclusive learning – We have strong inclusive practices in place at Mt Albert Kindergarten. We work with outside agencies and undertake professional development to ensure the best possible outcomes for each child and their whānau. We are passionate about working alongside akonga and their whānau as well as Plunket, local schools, the Ministry of Education and education support workers to ensure the best learning outcomes for all of our children.
Dedicated teaching team – Our experienced kaiako are passionate about observing and extending children’s interests and documenting their learning through learning stories and wall displays. We have regular pedagogical discussions to ensure children’s learning is progressing. Kaiako provide high-quality learning assessment for individual children empowering them to grow their mana and learning dispositions at the kindergarten. Kaiako are committed to engaging in their own professional development and internal evaluation to improve learning outcomes for tamariki and whānau.
