Kia ora and welcome to Birkenhead Kindergarten

Birkenhead Kindergarten has large open spaces with many different places for tamariki to explore. We have created dedicated learning areas with great resources for literacy, dramatic play, arts and crafts and construction.

Learning in nature – Our large outdoor environment boasts natural shade from numerous trees and has many garden areas where children are free to explore the natural world, supporting their curiosity and sparking their senses.

Open-ended learning – We are passionate about ‘loose parts’ which are found objects and materials tamariki can move, manipulate, control and change however they like. We incorporate these resources in many parts of the indoor and outdoor learning environments encouraging open-ended exploration.

A place for everyone – We have a multicultural kindergarten which brings so much diversity and joy. We are inclusive of all cultures within our community, acknowledging and celebrating the various languages, beliefs and customs that make Birkenhead Kindergarten so special.

Our Treaty – We have a Birkenhead Kindergarten treaty which reflects the values and customs that are important to us, including, kindness, respect, caring and relationships.

Skilled team – Our 100% qualified teaching team are very experienced and passionate about early childhood education. We are trained in the Incredible Years programme supporting resilience and social skills. One of our teachers also speaks Mandarin.

We welcome you to come and visit us, we’d love to show you all we have to offer your child.
