Marlborough Kindergarten joined the rest of the world to link up with the “National Simultaneous Storytime” from the International Space Station, to hear the story ‘Give Me Some Space’ by Philip Bunting. It was read by the American female astronaut Dr Shannon Walker in the Space Station. This sparked the children’s interest in learning more about space.

We watched YouTube clips, read books and learned songs about the planets, rocket launches and the moon. The children role played with the space rocket model we have and space figurines, as well as doing space related puzzles. We have been learning so much – it is great to hear the children’s theories and their interests expand.

The children made a large collaborative moon with craters to hang on the wall and have had so much fun creating themselves as “astronauts” exploring the moon. They have done all the work: drawing themselves in their space suit, with their helmets and oxygen tanks on – some children have also made satellites and space rockets which are flying to the moon. Our display is looking so awesome!
