During Term 4 of 2025, Onehunga Kindergarten proudly celebrated our longstanding tradition — the annual Trike-a-thon, a much-loved event and an important part of our fundraising efforts. This special evening once again highlighted the strong sense of community we are so fortunate to have here at Onehunga Kindergarten.

This year’s Trike-a-thon was incredibly successful and joy-filled. With the generous contributions of our community and the unwavering support of our whānau, we raised $3,300. We truly couldn’t have achieved this without your aroha, tautoko and awhi.

The evening was buzzing with excitement — toy sales, bake sales, “Pimp Your Ride,” face painting, nachos and sausage sizzles, picnics on the grass, raffle draws, and of course the much-anticipated Trike-a-thon races. Tamariki proudly crossed the finish line to receive their medals and certificates, beaming with confidence and accomplishment.

We would also like to extend our appreciation to our local community constables, Pete and Richard, for joining us and supporting the raffle draws. A heartfelt thank-you to all the wonderful local businesses who donated prizes — and a very special acknowledgement to one of our dedicated parents who worked tirelessly to organise many of these contributions.

As we reflect on this memorable event, we are reminded of the whakataukī:

“Nāu te rourou, nāku te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi.”
With your basket and my basket, the people will thrive.

This beautifully captures the spirit of our Trike-a-thon — a celebration made meaningful through the collective effort, generosity, and unity of our community.
