K. Bernie from Oranga Kindergarten and J. Ellis from Greenhithe Kindergarten bring to you: Strengthening the learning pathway in the transition from ECE to school
We will share the findings from two kindergarten teams who undertook a two-year Teacher Led Innovation research project. The project was primarily developed to broaden teacher practice in the area of assessment with a specific focus on the systems and processes used during the period of a child transitioning to school.
Engaging in an iterative, collaborative process guided by our research associate Dr Rachel Williamson-Dean from Woolf Fisher Research Centre, we refined our thinking and practice drawing on the feedback of our identified stakeholder groups: primary teachers, parents/whānau, children and ourselves, the kindergarten teachers. We hope to offer attendees our understanding of the type of assessment information that will most usefully support the student’s transition from ECE to school in our communities. In addition, we will explore the value of practical processes and experiences to support learners on their pathway to school.
