The very first Spoonville was started in Winnersh, Berkshire, England by a very creative lady Karen who came up with the idea of making Spoony characters from wooden spoons as a way of cheering up her local community during COVID-19 lockdown.

Since then, this new found craze of Spoonville has popped up all over the world and we have one at our very own Sturges Road Kindergarten.

We have had many of our local community young and old contribute to our Sturges Road Spoonville. Tamariki from kindergarten and the local schools have been busy making these during lockdown as their online learning set tasks from their kaiako.

We currently have 173 spoony’s, ranging from Jacinda Ardern and Ashley Bloomfield to dragons, birds and hippies.

Sturges Road’s Spoonville has created a new sense of community spirit for us as a kindergarten. We feel our connection has grown more than before and are getting to know locals, their pets and potential whānau.

We look forward to watching our Spoonville grow as well as our community engagement.
