The children at KiNZ Myers Park have been building on their interest in photography and have been enthralled by cameras of all shapes and sizes.
It all started with one child using his imagination to create a camera with Mobilo. Soon all the children were using their imaginations to create cameras of all shapes and sizes and with different attachments.
As a former photographer himself, Kaiako Paul brought in suitcase of old cameras from his home to share with all the children. This hands on opportunity to explore and wonder at the different types of cameras created an intriguing tactile learning experience for our children.
Our local op-shop across the road supported us by donating some old cameras to our classroom as well! Children got the opportunity to explore and learn about the different lenses, various buttons on the camera and where the ‘film’ is stored.
After some pretend play with the cameras, the children were ready to capture the world around them through their own eyes from the use of a centre device. Others who patiently waited for their turns were inspired to create their own cameras them at the carpentry table. We utilised resources and materials in the classroom and applied our prior knowledge and ideas to artistically individualise our cameras.
