Kia ora and welcome to Marlborough Kindergarten
A place to belong – We provide a welcoming, friendly and safe environment where tamariki and their whānau are able to build a strong sense of belonging, with an understanding that Marlborough Kindergarten is their special place. We respond to Whānau aspirations for their tamariki and work together in partnership for their child. We are a multicultural, diverse community and love to celebrate special cultural festivals with whānau, as learning about diversity helps to build an understanding and respect for all people.
Connections to Nature/Papatūānuku – We are beside a reserve and have a wonderful natural environment with large areas of grass, bush, trees and plants. Our tamariki enjoy nature and we encourage them to be kaitiaki/guardians of our environment and grow food to eat, share and to feed our resident guinea pig pets. We are a part of the Enviroschool programme and are working towards our Green/Gold Status. Our children learn for sustainability – rethinking, reducing, reusing, recycling and composting/worm farm. Children are empowered to become leaders and to teach others and their whānau.
Māori perspectives – We weave Māori perspectives into our everyday practice and thinking. We value the positive relationships we build with our whānau. We have a beautiful carved wharenui that represents our community for our tamariki to play in. We learn about and respect Te Ao Māori, Māori spirituality, tikanga, te reo, stories and waiata.
Learning through play – Through play we support children to develop skills such as literacy, numeracy, problem solving, social and emotional skills, communication, self-regulation and resilience. We encourage children to be curious, to wonder, be creative and challenge themselves – to have a love of learning.
Transition to school – We support tamariki to be confident to transition to school. We have a strong connection with Marlborough Primary School, Willow Park School, Sunnybrae Normal School and Windy Ridge School. Once a term our older children visit Marlborough Primary School to familiarise themselves with a school environment. We are an active member of the Kaipātiki Kāhui Ako/Community of learning.
Our tamariki attend kindergarten from 8.30am – 2.30pm, following the school terms and holidays.
We welcome you to come and visit us, we would love to meet you and show you around our kindergarten.
