Here at Glenfield Kindergarten, kaiako, whānau and tamariki have a clear vision of kaitiakitanga and manaakitanga embedded in our daily practices and programme.
Tamariki are empowered to play an active part in the programme and are confident to lead our vision, demonstrating responsibility, leadership, tuakana teina relationships and a passion to be active kaitiaki and eco warriors.
We have been very lucky to have Bunnings Glenfield kindly donate garden kitsets, bags of potting mix, vegetables, herbs and fruit to us. These are taonga from our community which we value a lot and we feel blessed to share our enviro journey with our wider community.
Tamariki have been actively involved in this project from the very beginning as they put together the garden beds and added soil and plants which they nurtured, cared for and observed. They have gathered dried seeds from our garden and spent time and mahi packaging these in recycled envelopes to take home to plant. These treasured experiences have given our tamariki the opportunity to become kaitiaki and to understand and be a part of growing produce and contributing to our community.
Our environment is noticeably more vibrant and healthy, no matter which direction you look you can see blossoming flowers surrounded by bees, gardens full of fruit and vegetables, fruit trees and vines that are well cared for by everyone in our kindergarten whānau. The harvesting process has been enjoyed by all as we are rewarded with our bounty of produce which we share with our community using our share and trade table.
Whānau have enjoyed receiving and contributing to our trade table and have been using our produce to create some delicious dishes at home which they have shared with us on Storypark.
We are really proud of our Enviroschools journey and hoping to become Green Gold in the near future.
