CONGRATULATIONS TO LAINGHOLM KINDERGARTEN ON AN AWESOME SECOND PLACE AT THE AUCKLAND COMMUNITY ZERO WASTE AWARDS IN THE “POWER OF THE PEOPLE” CATEGORY.
The Awards are designed to celebrate groups, individuals, social enterprises and youth in and around the Auckland Region who have shown leadership, community spirit and innovation in reducing waste going to landfill. The ‘Power of the People’ category is for the group or not-for-profit community organisation that has demonstrated leadership within their sector.
The Awards are an opportunity to recognise those who are turning waste into resources, maximising the life cycle of materials and inspiring others to take steps towards a Zero Waste Auckland by 2040.
Laingholm Head Teacher, Janice Dawson, says the team are still pretty excited by it all – they were one of 20 finalists chosen out of more than 100 nominations – all of an extremely high calibre.
“We already felt like winners being nominated, and we feel humble to receive the Runner-Up award.” says Head Teacher, Janice Dawson.
To be in the running for recognition at the awards, organisations had to be able to show they were actively:
- strengthening a partnership approach
- strengthening and activating a community-led approach
- providing meaningful interaction for everyone involved, and
- showcasing and celebrating the growing movement and work-to-date.
This is just the latest achievement for Laingholm Kindergarten who, along with their community, have been going from strength to strength with a commitment to Enviroschools principles for 14 years.
