Kia ora and welcome to Aorere Kindergarten
We are Aorere. Protecting the mana and wairua of our children, and respecting and celebrating the uniqueness of every child is the basis for all that we do. Our children are Taonga.
Belonging – Our tamariki and whānau feel that Aorere Kindergarten is their place. They have a sense of belonging and support and feel safe and secure, as their wellbeing is nurtured.
Learning is fun – We believe in making learning fun for children and our environment reflects this. Children learn to be creative, to explore and enquire and to develop the skills necessary for future learning.
Learning through play – Our kindergarten is set up to encourage free play. Children are free to spend time engaging in learning experiences and activities of their choice. They have ownership of their play which helps them to become confident, creative decision makers and develop their independence. Teachers provide children with the support they need, encouraging their confidence, independence and competence.
Skills for life – With us children develop their social skills, communication skills, learn to support each other, to show empathy and understanding, and to resolve issues. Through our play-based curriculum, children develop foundation skills in maths, science, literacy and in growing strong dispositions for learning, and getting along with others. We do this through sensitive, intentional teaching practice and interactions.
Whakawhanaungatanga – We believe children’s home, kindergarten and community environments are linked and influence each other and children’s development. We take on the role of helping to make those positive connections with our families and the community.
Respecting cultures – Our children’s culture and where they come from is respected and supported in every way. We embrace and celebrate the rich diversity of our community. Te Reo, Te Ao Māori and Tikanga is incorporated into every day kindy life.
Kaitiaki – We’re part of the Enviroschool programme where we learn to care for Papatuanuku. Encouraging Rangatiratanga (leadership) and Maanakitanga (care and kindness) is also an important part of the Enviroschool programme for us. At Aorere, we have wet weather gear so the outdoor play and learning of our tamariki is not hindered by weather.
We’re for you – We are a not-for-profit kindergarten, part of the AKA family who have been an important part of young Aucklanders education since 1908. You can trust that we provide the very best quality early childhood education. We have the same terms and holidays as schools and are open weekdays from 8.30am to 3.30pm, perfect for families with school aged children. We are experienced in working with children who have additional needs and offer 21 hours for children aged 2-6 years old.
