This year Lincoln North Kindergarten turned 50 and through kotahitanga we were able to celebrate this amazing milestone by bringing past and present whānau together, to remember and acknowledge the role that Rathgar/Lincoln North Kindergarten has had in the community. From the whakatau through to the kai tea, we were wanting whānau and tamariki to experience what you would experience when going on the marae. We had haka, karakia, waiata tautoko and whaikōrero. All whānau embraced the kaupapa finishing off with kai and whakawhanungatanga.
We were gifted a taonga from whānau to go above the doorway into the whare. The name given to this taonga is Waharoa. Placed over the entrance of the kindergarten, it symbolises the new journey whānau embark on when joining our kindy whānau. This was unveiled by two of our tuakana.
We had the pleasure of hearing from Irene who worked here for 16 years. Robert, who worked here for 21 years, cut the cake with the potiki of our whānau.
We thank whānau, friends and management for taking time out of their day to celebrate with us, we are truly humbled and share gratitude with you all. We would like to thank all kaiako, tamariki and whānau who have continued to make Lincoln North Kindergarten a part of their child’s journey, and a hub for the community.
Finally I would like to thank the current team of Lincoln North Kindergarten. We are the caretakers at this time in the life of LNK. I want to acknowledge your work, commitment, time and energy that you all bring every day, making our kindy what it is today. We wish for Lincoln North Kindergarten to continue to serve this community while creating long life learners. I leave you with this little whakatauki: He waka eke noa. We are all in the waka working together to create the best learning outcomes for tamariki.
