At Howick Kindergarten we were inspired to make some tie dye T-shirts after seeing by Ruby’s colourful T-shirt. Kaiako Moana had a whole box of T-shirts out back, so we started on the design journey.
We Googled how to make a spiral pattern and we got some dye and droppers so we could make that pattern. The tamariki twisted the T-shirt around, so we could put some elastic bands around and form 4 quarters on the T-shirt to dye with 4 different colours. Once it was all coloured, we put it in a plastic bag over night to set. When the tamariki came back to kindy the next day, they were excited to see how their T-shirt had turned out! They took it out of the bag and undid the elastic bands. And then, they hung it on a hanger and put it out in the sun to dry.
The tamariki thoroughly enjoyed the process and we loved the variety and creativity of our home made shirts. We believe it will be fantastic to showcase these uniquely designed T-shirts on summer days!
