Ellerslie Kindergarten honoured our dads and special male figures of our Kindergarten by hosting the Ellerslie Olympic Games.
Our children dedicated the week to drawing portraits of their dads, focusing on their creativity and personal perceptions of these important men in their lives. We displayed their portraits up high and as their fathers arrived, this was the first thing they noticed. Our children were thrilled to show their dads the portraits they had created.
After a warm welcome and karakia for kai we spoiled our dads with some yummy refreshments. Once the dads had time to settle, we kicked off the ‘Ellerslie Olympic Games’. The main events included a long jump in our sandpit, magnetic darts, and an egg (ping-pong ball) and spoon race as our final game.
Josh clinched the magnetic darts with a score of 110 points. Ben triumphed in the long jump with a leap of 2.11m, and Hani emerged victorious in the spoon and egg race. During these events, our children enthusiastically supported their dads grandads, and special male role models with supportive cheers.
It was an exceptional day, honouring the dads and significant male figures in our tamariki lives, reinforcing whakapapa-belonging and connectedness and whanaungatanga-relationships with family.
