Kia ora and welcome to Summerland Kindergarten
Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging – At Summerland Kindergarten we have a multicultural community and diverse teaching team who are experienced, passionate and dedicated long serving teachers. Our strength lies in our differences not in our similarities. We value diversity and embrace one another’s uniqueness. We believe that all children have something important to offer and that we are really better off learning together.
Time for learning – We have a calm and unhurried learning environment that creates opportunities for children to explore and extend their knowledge and skills. Our learning spaces are purposeful, meaningful and reflective of children’s interest. We have a big playground equipped with lots of different play equipment where children can practise their gross motor skills and increase their confidence in what their body can do. Our play spaces are well resourced and foster basic concepts of numeracy and literacy.
Ready for school – We support children to develop foundation skills such as literacy, numeracy and social skills like listening, sharing and taking turns with others that are important building blocks for lifelong learning. We have a close connection with Summerland Primary School located right next to the kindergarten and do a termly school visit with our older children as part of our transition to school programme.
Home and kindy connection – We value our families’ involvement in their children’s education and in the running of our kindergarten programme. We cherish the sharing of cultural traditions, festivals, language and celebrations. We have coffee mornings every term where parents gather at the kindergarten to meet and socialise. Our popular annual Market Day is also organised by our wonderful families.
Parent Whānau Group – We have a Parent Whānau Group (PWG) who meet regularly and are involved in the running of our kindergarten. They support us with fundraisers and sharing ideas of what they would love to see implemented in the kindergarten. They help us in maintaining our veggie garden and orchard.
