What a fantastic time we had this afternoon at Pigeon Mountain Kindergarten! We are so lucky to have this maunga (mountain) on our doorstep to explore! We often go for walks up Ōhuiarangi/Pigeon Mountain, and today we went after lunch when the grass had dried out and the sun was shining. It is a steep climb up the maunga, and it was great to see the enthusiasm of our tamariki as they climbed to the top. When we reached the top, we all stopped to look at the amazing view and to take some group photos. Then, on the way back, we had a race down the long grassy field. At the bottom, we had some more fun races and games before going back into the kindergarten.

Our maunga walks are a great opportunity for our children to be physically active and challenge themselves. Walking up our maunga helps develop gross motor skills, physical fitness, and core body strength. It is also great for our tamariki to be outdoors and exploring nature! As our curriculum, Te Whāriki, tells us, these experiences are very important for the growth and development of our tamariki.
