Mālō e lelei, and welcome to Fonua ´Alaha Manongi Kindergarten

Located in the Ōtāhuhu community, Fonua ‘Alaha Manongi is a family-friendly, home away from home for all our children.

Inspired learning – Our unique Kindergarten is centred around our children and their whānau wants and needs. Every child comes to us with their own background and home-life, bringing knowledge, values, talents and ways of being that help make our kindergarten so special. Here are some of the ways our kindergarten gives your little one the tools to learn and grow:

Our faiako/kaiako – We are a qualified teaching team with experiences and interests that extend beyond language nest based teaching. We have many talents and different hats we wear daily as a result of of backgrounds. This richness of experience helps us to create a safe and nurturing place where whānau and children feel they belong.

Freedom to explore – At Fonua ‘Alaha Manongi, our Kindergraten is strategically designed for our kids to explore freely. Our indoor area provides an environment where our children are empowered to indulge their curiosity and imaginations. Our outdoor area has three levels, first level is dedicated to our painters and carpenters, second level is the ever-popular sandpit, and the third area is our park and our garden where we grow our own vegetables that our kaiako and whānau are welcome to take home.

Whanaungatanga – We acknowledge and value the treaty of Waitangi as it is similar to Tongan culture values. We create a respectful space where our children, whānau and kaiako are valued. Our learning programes promote inclusive teaching where we acknowledge all the individual cutures that walk through our doors and highlight the dual heritage of Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Ready for school – Our kaiako work around the clock to provide and support our children with developing the skills and attitudes to help them in their transition to primary school. We have developed a ‘Get ready for school’ programme that involves, literacy and number time, letter of the week and simply having fun with their learning journey.

We are open weekdays from 8.30am to 3.30pm and are the only AKA kindergarten that is open all year, responding to the needs of our community.

We welcome you to come to our kindergarten and we will show you our special learning environment and talk about what we can offer you and your fānaú. We are offering no fees for new enrolments for a limited time!

My twins Luti and Seini started at Fonua 'Alaha Manongi Kindergarten around October 2023. This has been the best decision I have made because my twins love it there. Luti and Seini have learnt so much and never want to miss a day. The twins are more confident, they go on about their day and when it's pickup time they let our family know what they have learnt for the day. I see a huge improvement in how they engage with other kids, learn to share and ask for things instead of crying for it. They love their teachers just as much as I do. Ema, Kase and Lupe I see how hard you work for the kids and everything you do for them 5 days a week, it never goes unnoticed. Thank you for the wonderful job you do.

  • WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING

Since the day she started at this Kindergarten, my daughter has loved every single day. Every morning, she walks into her school she greets everyone and starts her day on a high. Thank you to the teachers at Fonua 'Alaha Manongi Kindergarten for creating a safe learning place for our children. A place where she feels loved and cared for and a place where she can learn both Tongan and English. As a mother it's hard to leave your kids at kindergarten and that's why I waited for a while so she was able to talk and tell me how her day was and if she was getting treated alright. It's been nothing but good news and fun times at her Kindergarten.
