Kia ora and welcome to Morningside Kindergarten

At Morningside Kindergarten we provide a foundation for a lifelong love of learning in a nurturing and stimulating environment where every child can thrive. Our learning programme is based on the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whāriki.

Belonging – The Te Ao Māori concept of Manaakitanga, caring for people, places and things underpins our practice. We have an inclusive environment where all children, their language, spirituality and culture are respected and supported and where each child is affirmed as an individual.

Supporting – The fostering of Tuakana-Teina relationships is important to our philosophy. With a mixed range of ages we value and encourage the sharing of knowledge between expert/older peers with learner/younger peers.

Engaging – Our kindergarten playground is beautiful, expansive and nurturing, offering a unique blend of natural elements and structured play areas. Designed to spark curiosity and creativity, our outdoor space encourages children to explore, discover, and learn through nature while also enhancing the development of physical skills.

Empowering – We are proud to be a Silver Enviroschool and our tamariki love to get into the garden and learn in nature. This empowers students, as they learn about sustainability, Māori perspectives and a respect for diversity of people and culture.

Kindness – Relationships in our community are nurtured and respected within the culture of Kaitiakitanga, kindness, love and respect for others, ourselves and our planet.

Connection – Situated within Mt Albert Primary School, we have a strong relationship with the school, enabling our older children to gain an insight into the next stage of their learning journey through regular visits to the new entrant class and involvement in school events.

Commitment – We are a diverse and dynamic team passionately dedicated to supporting children in becoming competent resilient and confident learners, secure in their sense of belonging. We build strong, affirming responsive relationships with children fostering their emotional security that supports their ability to learn and enables positive behaviour guidance.

Te Ao Māori – We acknowledge and value Te Tiriti O Waitangi and our learning programme promotes bicultural awareness and understanding by including tikanga Māori and Te Reo within our daily practice.

We welcome you to visit, we’d love to show you our wonderful kindergarten and all we have to offer your child.
