Our Trike-a-thon has been an annual event for decades now. It was a difficult decision to postpone several times due to the COVID-19 crisis, but we were finally able to get the event off the ground last term, before the cold weather set in. This is an exciting fundraiser event that our whānau look forward to because of the way it brings us all together to celebrate our children. Past pupils come back to get involved as “junior track marshalls” and to reminisce about when they did their laps for the kindergarten.
Over the years, local celebrities like our Police Constable Don and his beautiful Airedale police dog, and support services like Clicky Ricky, are visitors who frequent the event. Our Parent Whānau Group does an amazing job of organising all the details in ways that gets everyone involved, and ensures that the event runs like clockwork.
Over time, stalls have been added, making it more like a mini fair on the day – ‘best loved toys’, food tents, face painting etc. Sponsorship forms that go home beforehand bring in very generous money contributions.
We are grateful to our local retailers who supply vouchers to pay for expenses, and a prize bike for the most sponsorship money raised by a child.
Each year we raise a little more than the year before and this year was no exception – close to $4,400!
The amazing support we receive for this highlights how much confidence our local community has in our kindergarten, to nurture, challenge and educate Onehunga’s precious preschool learners.
