It has just been over a year since Northcote Kindergarten started their Enviroschools journey. Through the support of our facilitators, Northcote Kindergarten have just completed the work to become a Bronze Enviroschool.

Northcote Kindergarten used the times through and between the lockdowns of COVID-19 with completing their many gardens making new areas.

Tamariki have been empowered to be kaitiaki o tātou whenua as they engage meaningfully with their environment. The team have set up a potting area for seedlings as well as continuing to develop compost areas and worm farms.

Kaiako have a culture of sustainability and are deepening their knowledge and passion with the community.

The kindergarten now recycle all soft plastics at home and at kindergarten, regularly gift to De Paul House, grow produce that they can use ‘garden to table’, engage children in Māori atua through stories and art as well as upcycle or repurpose rather than buy new items.

The team’s next steps will be to deepen their knowledge on diversity.
