Kia ora and welcome to Northcote Central Kindergarten
Our beautiful kindergarten really is a hidden gem! Tucked away in the heart of Northcote Central, we have created an oasis amidst a rapidly growing suburb.
Connected with nature – As an Enviroschool, we work alongside our children to help them become kaitiaki/guardians of Papatūānuku /our environment. Enjoy the colourful blooms, fruit and vegetable bounty the children have sown, grown and harvested. Learning to refuse, reuse, recycle is an integral part of what we do here.
Qualified teachers – Our highly experienced and professional ECE teachers have worked together for several years. We ensure all our tamariki and their whānau love coming to our kindergarten and feel a strong sense of belonging. We are very flexible with the settling in period encouraging our families to take the time they need to settle their child.
Belonging – Our families are engaged and feel welcome and at home with us, helping to create a strong sense of community and belonging – we love involving them in our kindy days. We have children from many different countries and cultures and love to celebrate the diverse cultures and special celebrations with our community.
Te ao Māori – We acknowledge Māori as tangata whenua of Aotearoa New Zealand and reflect this in our practice. We sing waiata, karakia and speak te reo daily. We have many resources to support our learning of te reo me ngā tikanga Māori.
Responsive teaching – We are extremely well resourced with an abundance of interesting things to explore and learn with. We follow the learning interests of our children and provide excellent resources and teaching strategies to extend those interests.
Specialist care – Our kaiako are skilled in implementing the Incredible Years Teacher Programme which supports young children with self-regulation and their social, emotional and academic competence.
Ready for school – Our transition to school programme (Tui Group) is fun and something our children really look forward to. Every week we explore the local library, park, local school and other areas of interest in our community. We run a bike riding programme too. All these things work together to help our children feel confident in the wider world and ready to take on the next challenge of school.
We would love to share our place with you and your whānau. Contact us today, we’ll organise a time that suits you to visit with your child – we know you’ll feel right at home.
