GARDEN PARTY

The story behind The Garden Party.

Instead of the staff planting the gardens, we wanted to involve the children and their families in this project.

We want to Celebrate our Gardens in a positive and festive way.

We would encourage our families to plant, feed and look after what they plant which will give them a sense of belonging, contribution, well being, communication and exploration.

Over the months the children will continue the journey with what they have planted and celebrate all that comes with it.

We also wanted to involve the many people that contribute to this kindergarten in so many different ways, so we invited them too.

That’s how we came up with the concept, “The Garden Party”.

On the Day

On the 22nd October 2015, Bairds Kindergarten had the opportunity of having a garden day. On the day as a parent helper, I can honestly say that this was an excellent day. I do believe that everyone that attended the day had a great time, everyone was participating in the garden, taking the opportunity to plant and learn with their children, grandchildren and we also had a little girl who had her great grandmother and great grandaunt there on the day. It was a very nice community day that everyone enjoyed.

Everyone also got to make their own burgers using ingredients would come from a vegetable garden. We had lemonade made from lemons from someone’s lemon tree. It was a day that everyone enjoyed, the children were very excited because their parents were there to celebrate the day with them. Children and parents had their faces painted with anything that was in relation to the garden, which made it really special.

This is definitely an event that this Kindy will not forget, because it was full of FUN, EXCITEMENT, DIRT, PLANTS, PARTICIPATION, EDUCATION, LAUGHTER and so much more. So I hope that we can continue to do activities like this in the future, that will help our community and children know that LEARNING IS FUN.
