Oratia Kindergarten won a community spirit award from Kings Seeds, receiving $250 to say thank you for their work in the community.

“We LOVE to garden. We are an Enviroschool, and we want to be the best kaitiaki (guardians) to Papatuanuku (Mother Earth), Tane Mahuta & Te Taiao that we can be. We don’t use any poisonous sprays as we are an ecosite. We have our own worm farm, compost and rainwater collection too. We have beautiful kereru, tui, weta, bees and insects that visit our Kindy space at the bottom of the Waitakere’s. Our community helped us this year with a working bee to restore our gardens.

Now, we want to share our love of gardening with our community. We have set up a trading table at Kindy, to share our produce with our families.”
