Exploring festivals in different countries gives us all an opportunity to look at life from a different perspective.

At Cascades Kindergarten, we celebrated Diwali by understanding it’s meaning and exploring all things Indian through art, food, music, dance, dress-ups and stories. Our tamariki loved playing with the jewelled elephants and shiny bangles. Mat time discussions, video clips and hands-on exploration through art and craft deepened the meaning of ‘diya’ and Diwali for us all.

Our tamariki will remember that every culture celebrates life through music, dance, stories, food, clothing, languages and art forms. These are specific to a people that come from a certain part of our world, but when we all participate in it, it becomes part of our life as well. It is easy to understand people when you get to know them first. What better way to do this than celebrating their happy times together as friends.
