At Bayview kindergarten, we value and celebrate different cultures of our learning community. Chinese New Year is a festival we celebrate every year. This year, Chinese New Year started on the 1st of February, and we planned a variety of learning experiences to support our tamariki in understanding and appreciating different cultures and to respect diversity.

Through these learning experiences and encounters, our tamariki are also enhancing their literacy knowledge and skills through exploring Chinese calligraphy; getting familiar with Chinese culture through reading books and Chinese myths; practising fine motor skills when packing red envelopes; and exploring numbers and mathematical knowledge. Children build their sense of belonging and confidence through persisting with difficulties when learning something new.
