At Howick Kindergarten, we are proud to offer a rich, hands-on curriculum that grows from children’s interests and sparks curiosity. Our recent visit from Science in a Van perfectly showcased how we bring meaningful, high-quality learning experiences to our tamariki.

During the session, the facilitator led The Wonderful World of Bubbles Show, engaging children with bubbles, mixtures, reactions, and simple scientific questions. Tamariki explored how things can separate, combine, and create new results, developing early scientific thinking, problem-solving skills, and “I wonder…” moments. They also used body movements, sign language, and dancing to reinforce learning, making the experience interactive, memorable, and joyful.

At Howick Kindergarten, learning never stops at the event itself. our kaiako extended children’s interest through hands-on experiments including marble milk, bouncing and floating eggs, baking-based science, and bouncing bubbles. These activities allowed tamariki to revisit concepts from the show while exploring mixtures, reactions, buoyancy, and cause-and-effect in a playful, engaging environment.

We take pride in being a child-interest–centred kindergarten, where thoughtful planning ensures every learning experience sparks curiosity, creativity, and discovery.
